Garth Connor ’79

“I always feel connected to Drexel and when you feel connected you hope the school thrives.”

For over three decades, Garth Connor ‘79 has been giving back to Drexel University for one main reason: the students.

“Drexel can help students with need as well as students with academic excellence. Their future is important. Drexel gave me marketable skills so I could get a real job as an environmental scientist using what I learned. Drexel can do that for all our kids.”

Mr. Connor has given annually since he graduated and directs his giving to Drexel Fund, which provides unrestricted support for the University.

“I started giving right away,” says Mr. Connor. “My donations have been consistent over 35 years. They weren’t enormous contributions but they certainly added up to something larger.”

Over the years, Mr. Connor’s giving has allowed him to have a significant impact on students’ experiences. He helps support everything from campus improvements and facilities enhancements to scholarships.

“It is important to support Drexel so that [the University] can help students make it through college and not be in dire straits when they graduate,” says Mr. Connor. “To a 19-year-old coming from a moderate background, a scholarship is huge.”

Mr. Connor acknowledges the growth of the campus and university community with pride, knowing that he plays a role in the success of Drexel and its students.

“I still go running through Drexel’s campus,” he says. “It’s great they’re building new buildings and the campus is improving – it’s beautiful. I always feel connected to Drexel and when you feel connected you hope the school thrives.”
