Christopher Woehrle Appointed Acting Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement
Drexel Daily Digest - Christopher P. Woehrle, Esq. (pictured) was appointed acting senior vice president of Institutional Advancement, announced President Papadakis. Woehrle succeeds Barbara Spiro Ryan who retired on May 1, 2005. A national search will be conducted for a permanent replacement. The Office of Institutional Advancement is responsible for the University’s development and alumni relations programs for all colleges and schools, including the Drexel University College of Medicine. Woehrle joined Drexel’s Office of Institutional Advancement in 1993 as senior planned giving officer, a position he held until 1996.
Dr. Stephen W. Director Appointed New Provost
Drexelink - Dr. Stephen W. Director was named the University’s provost, announced President Papadakis. Director was appointed after a national search. Director will join Drexel on July 1 from the University of Michigan, where he has been the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering and professor of electrical engineering and computer science since 1996. Director met with Drexel students, faculty and staff at “town hall” meetings on April 11. More
Women's Varsity Eight Wins Bronze at Dad Vail
Philadelphia, Pa. - The Drexel women's crew continued to turn heads at the Dad Vail Regatta this weekend, taking home a bronze medal in the heavyweight varsity eight event. After winning the semifinal heat with an exciting finish, the Dragons used the momentum they had built to propel them to a third-place finish in the final. Dr. Richard V. Homan Named DUCoM Dean
Drexelink - After a national search, Dr. Richard V. Homan has been appointed dean and senior vice president for health affairs for the Drexel University College of Medicine, President Papadakis announced. Dr. Homan will join Drexel on September 1 from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas, where he has been the dean of the School of Medicine since 2001 and vice president for clinical affairs since 2003. Greek Week 2005
Greek Week 2005 ended on Friday, May 6. Three champions were crowned: Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (IFC), Delta Phi Omega Sorority (BIG-C), and Delta Zeta Sorority (Panhellenic). Tickets Available for Drexel Fashion 2005
Drexel Daily Digest - The College of Media Arts & Design's design and merchandising program will present Drexel Fashion 2005 on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Crystal Tea Room of the historic Wanamaker Building (100 Penn Square East, ninth floor). All graduating fashion students will present their culminating projects - collections they have personally designed and produced. The show features professional models, and, for the first time, will be held off-campus.
Wrestler Ryan Hluschak Earns NWCA All-Academic Honors
DrexelDragons.com - Drexel wrestler Ryan Hluschak (left)), a business administration major, was named to the 2005 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team. Hluschak, a redshirt freshman, has a 3.77 grade point average. Hluschak, who wrestled at 157 pounds, had a 25-11 overall record, including an 8-2 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matches, this season. He was named CAA Rookie of the Week on February 1 and recognized by the Amateur Wrestling News as one of the top five freshmen in his weight class this season. In addition to Hluschak's honor, Drexel's wrestling team finished 20th in the nation among NCAA-Division I schools with a team grade point average of 2.9742.
Blue & Gold days Alumni Weekend 2005
On April 29 & 30, alumni from across the country celebrated another successful Blue & Gold Days Alumni Weekend. More then 1,000 attended events from cooking demonstrations hosted by the culinary arts and dietetics departments to the Red Carpet Gala, where attendees danced the night away in the setting of old Hollywood (pictured). DUCoM Raises $700,000 at Black Tie White Coat Ball
Drexelink - The Drexel University College of Medicine held its Black Tie White Coat Ball on April 2 at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott. The event raised $700,000 for DUCoM’s research in the causes and cures of chronic pain.This year’s gala featured the music of renowned “girl groups” The Shirelles, The Crystals and The Marvelettes. The event was co-chaired by Nicholas DeBenedictis ’68, ’69 Hon. ’87, Drexel trustee, and chairman, president and CEO of AquaAmerica, and PHEC Chairman Manuel Stamatakis.
Mural Arts Tour of Philadelphia
On Saturday, May 21, join fellow alumni in experiencing the "Best of Philly". Begin with brunch at 10 a.m. at the Astral Plane Restaurant, voted "Best Brunch" by CitySearch in 2004. Afterward, enjoy a trolley tour of the North Philadelphia Latino-themed murals, led by a representative from the popular Mural Arts Program. Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival
Rowers, athletes, and active alumni, we need you! Become a part of the Drexel Dragon Boat team. The Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival is an annual race that benefits the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Race day is October 1 and we are looking for 42 rowers. Last year, Drexel
placed 1st in the Collegiate Challenge, team pictured to the left. This year, we again will enter two Drexel Dragon boats with two Drexel College of Medicine MOTO Dragon boats. For more information or register click here.
