The Year of the Dragon: Celebrating Dragon Discovery in September
During September the hunt is on as we celebrate Dragon Discovery with our Drexel Alumni Scavenger Hunt! No matter where you live, you will have the opportunity to explore all of the programs, benefits and services offered by the Alumni Association through our Online Scavenger Hunt all month long. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in September we'll post a clue on our Facebook fanpage which will take you on an online hunt for the Year of the Dragon logo hidden somewhere on our website.
If you're in the Philadelphia area, you are also invited to join us on September 22 for our Year of the Dragon Alumni Scavenger Hunt through the University's surrounding neighborhoods. Kicking off from Drexel's University City campus, participants will journey through Drexel's Center City campus, downtown Philadelphia, and Chinatown, and winners will earn bragging rights and great prizes! After the hunt, all participants are invited to enjoy a reception at Mikey's American Grill and Sports Bar while we tally up the scores.

James Prosek: Ocean Fishes Exhibit
Connecticut artist James Prosek is known for his detailed and arresting watercolor paintings, mostly of fish and other ocean creatures. In this exhibit at the ANS from October 13 to January 27, he showcases his personal impressions of marine beauties through life-size paintings from his new book, Ocean Fishes. More
Fall Career Fair for Alumni and Students
The Steinbright Career Development Center invites you to participate in its annual fall career fair on October 3. As the largest university-held career fair in the Greater Philadelphia area, this is an excellent opportunity to connect with current Drexel students and recent alumni for co-op and full-time hiring opportunities. Biodiversity Symposium at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (ANS)
The ANS will host a symposium about the diversity of life on October 11 and 12. Activities will take place at the ANS and on Drexel's campus. All alumni can register here. The keynote address of the symposium, "Explaining Biodiversity: The Impending Synthesis," will be delivered by Dr. Douglas Futuyama, a Stony Brook University evolutionary biologist, on October 11. The ANS will award Futuyama its prestigious Joseph Leidy Award before he delivers the keynote. All alumni can register for the talk and reception here.
Behind-the-Scenes Tours of the Malacology Collection
The ANS is offering limited-time, behind-the-scenes tours of The Malacology Collection, Thursdays through Mondays in October. The collection, which holds 10 million specimens, is the third largest shell collection in the world. See fossils, corals and marine and other invertebrates, including crabs, giant worms and human parasites. More

The College of Medicine will host two receptions with Dr. Daniel Schidlow, on the occasion of his appointment as Walter H. and Leonore Annenberg Dean Drexel University College of Medicine and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs. Architectural and Civil Engineering
You don't often hear a person describe the day he lost his job as, "one of the best days of my life." But that's exactly what it turned out to be for Joe McClellan '96 who says that he almost had to contain his excitement when he received notice of his 2010 layoff.
"I knew I had to get out of that situation but it was a hard decision," said Joe. "When I lost my job, the decision was made for me." After graduating from Drexel with a degree in both architectural and civil engineering in 1996, Joe moved from Pennsylvania to Colorado to begin his life as an engineer and to spend as much time as possible riding his bike, skiing, and enjoying the great outdoors.
