Harriett WorrellAlumni Spotlight

Harriet Worrell 1909, 1915: The Woman Behind the Harriett Worrell Society

Harriet Worrell was a remarkable woman and a Drexel Dragon, through and through. Her love for Drexel was evident over the years through her commitment to the University, especially to its alumni. Harriet earned two degrees from what was then the Drexel Institute, in 1909 and 1915, and went on to serve as both an employee and a volunteer for the University and for its Alumni Association. >>

On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Alumni Association and the Harriet E. Worrell Society will host the 1st Annual Harriet E. Worrell Society Networking Reception and Program for Society members, current women student leaders and young alumnae. The evening will feature a talk titled "Finding Your Voice" from Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Benchmark Communications, Inc., Judith Glaser '69. Click here to register.

Turkey Project
Click the video above to hear how important the Turkey Project is to our West Philadelphia neighbors and to those served by Drexel's 11th Street Family Health Services Center.

The One Month Countdown to the Alumni Holiday Turkey Project Begins Today!

There is exactly one month to go until the 40th Annual Alumni Holiday Turkey Project on Friday, Dec. 20! We can feel the excitement building with each day that passes and with every new donation we receive. Thank you to everyone who has helped us reach more than 40% of our $20,000 goal! We still have some work to do, so please consider making your gift to the Project if you have not already done so. This Drexel tradition raises money to purchase frozen turkeys for local families for the holidays, and has been doing so for the past four decades. Watch the video above for a personal message from some of the community organizations that have been impacted by the Turkey Project over the years.

You can also volunteer to join us at the Paul Peck Alumni Center on Friday, Dec. 20 to help distribute the turkeys to the community organizations and see first-hand the impact the Project has on the community. We hope to see you there! For more information, to make your gift and to register to help distribute turkeys, click here. >>

Inga ArnopolinMeet Inga Arnopolin '12: The 12,000th Member of the Alumni Association's Networking Group on LinkedIn

Q: What do you do for a living?
I graduated from Drexel in June 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a minor in business administration. I currently live in Houston and I moved here in August 2012, after graduation. I work for DuPont where I am a process engineer for a unit that manufactures herbicides, within the crop protection business.

As a process engineer, I have basic responsibilities to maintain the smooth operation of the unit, and ensure that safety, environmental regulations, quality, and production are not compromised. This involves troubleshooting equipment failure, analyzing data to determine root causes of quality problems, maintaining yield calculations, updating and writing operating procedures. I have also led a process hazard analysis this year, which is a year-long assessment of the hazards in a given area. The good thing about my role is that it allows me to interact with people from all areas of plant life, including operators, mechanics, engineers, and management.

Q: What do you use LinkedIn for?
I use it to network, and find it to be a great tool, especially if you are looking for a job.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Alumni Association’s LinkedIn Group?
It’s a good way to stay in touch with fellow Drexel alumni. Hopefully it can help lead to professional opportunities in the future. If any alumni reading this want to connect with me on LinkedIn, please do.

Q: What’s something interesting about you that people might not know?
My family is Russian and I can speak it fluently!

Connect with Inga and thousands of other Drexel graduates by joining the Alumni Association Networking Group on LinkedIn! As a member, you'll have access to job postings, you'll be part of interesting discussions, and you'll have the opportunity to meet and connect with Drexel alumni on a global scale. >>

Save the Date for Your Reunion at Alumni Weekend 2014

On May 2 and 3, the Alumni Association will host Alumni Weekend and celebrate the 25th and 50th reunions of the Classes of 1989 and 1964. If you're from the Class of 1989 or 1964 and you would like to help plan your special reunion activities during Alumni Weekend, let us know! As a Reunion Volunteer, you will also help us reach out to your classmates and encourage them to join you back on campus this May. Contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 1.888.DU.GRADS or alumni@drexel.edu for more information and to volunteer.

Another way to get involved is by becoming a Drexel Fund Reunion Giving Volunteer. As a Reunion Giving Volunteer, your upbeat personality will be utilized as you reconnect with classmates and encourage them to participate in the Reunion Giving Program. The Program is built on alumni participation and our volunteers help increase scholarships and enrich students’ experiences. The Program kicks off this month and runs through Alumni Weekend. To volunteer, contact Matthew Schwab at mds369@drexel.edu or 215.895.1712.

The College of Medicine will hold its 50th reunion for the Hahnemann University and Woman's Medical College Classes of 1964 from May 14 to 16.

The beautiful photograph above was taken by Drexel graduate Bob Richardson '68 who, along with his wife Jeanette '69, participated in the Alumni Association Travel Program's Trip "Villages and Vineyards of the Mosel, Rhine and Main Rivers" from Oct. 7 to 15. What motivates people to lead? Today, the idea of what makes a successful leader is changing. The ability to lead is no longer based on learned management skills, but from a determination that compels you to take passionate action.

Comma will discuss how utilizing your own fundamental strengths, beliefs and principles can help you effectively lead in today's global, multicultural and virtual settings. >>
